The Foundation for Local News is committed to helping schools create sustainable journalism programs that inspire students and strengthen communities. 

We’re beginning in New Jersey’s most economically distressed areas, where the need for opportunity — and the need for local news — is greatest.

Student journalism is more than a class project. 

It’s a way to:

• Give students a voice and real-world reporting skills
• Encourage civic engagement and critical thinking
• Reconnect communities through storytelling
• Inspire future careers in media, communications, and beyond

We partner directly with school administrators to design programs that last. 

Our support includes:

• Fundraising Assistance – Access to grants, sponsors, and community partnerships to cover program costs
• Training & Mentorship – Real-world workshops, newsroom guidance, and editorial support
• Publishing Opportunities – Platforms for students to share their work with a wider audience
• Equity Commitment – Resources directed first to underserved schools and districts
